Hi, I am Samantha Davenport, and I am a sophomore here at UC. I am majoring in Early Childhood education, and when I graduate I hope to teach kindergarten or first grade. I have one sister, and she will most likely be coming to school here next year. We are only 2 years apart, so we are very close. Before I started here at UC I went to Mother of Mercy High School, which is on the westside of Cincinnati. While I was there I was on the cross country team. I enjoy running even though I am not the best at it. I still run, and I like to do some races that take place around the city. My favorites are the Reggae Run and the Thanksgiving Day race. Besides going to school I work part time at Superior Chevrolet. I work as a receptionist and a cashier. Sometimes I like to go here MSN.
Reflection of Standards IV. Assessment and Evaluation: Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies
A.apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
The rubric I made goes along with this standard. In making the rubric I used technology, and the rubric was used to assess the students learning. The rubric was made to help the students better understand the project they were doing, and also to grade them on how well they were able to incorporate the things that were important into their project. Using the website to make this rubric, made it easier for me as a teacher, because it took less time than it would take to come up with a rubric from scratch.

(Could use a little more info) Also has a small list of negative outcomes this problem could cause, (should be more) and others who may be affected by it.
The problem is not clearly addressed. There aren't enough examples, or enough data to explain the situation their company is in. There are a few negative outcome, but not enough, and there is no description of how this problem is affecting the company, nor how it may affect others.
The Research plan
Clearly states the student/company worker plan of action. A well thought out hypothesis is formed. There also is an adequate list of the 5 required resources that was used when they researched their problem.

II. Plandesign developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology.
A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
I think this standard goes along with the lesson that I helped create for my groups final project. The lesson we did was on a smartboard for a 2nd grade class. The lesson was appropriate to the students we were teaching, and it had a little bit of everything, so it could play to the diverse needs of the many learners. In the lesson we had time for the class to work together, and had time for students come up with things on their own. We had visual teaching on the smartboards for those students who learn better by seeing. We had individual things for them to do, which left them time to ask the teacher questions if they had any. I think our lesson played to most of the needs that 2nd graders have at that age, and this is why I think our lesson fits in with this standard.
V. Productivity and Professional Practice: Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
C. apply technology to increase productivity.
I think this standard goes along with the Gradebook activity that we did for homework this week. This activity shows that teachers are committed to lifeflong learning. It also helps teachers to engage in onegoing professional development. This activity also applies technology to incease in productivity. It shows that things like excel can help teachers to do something that once to a pretty long time to do. Now calculating grades can now be done very easily. GradeBookActivity.xls III. Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum: Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.
B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
C. apply technology to develop students' higher-order skills and creativity.
D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
I think this standard goes along with the online textbook we are creating. The lessons we are coming up with are lessons that would allow students to be creative. Not all of the lessons are the same, so they can address the different needs of students. This standard describes what learning is all about, and I feel that the lessons we are finding for the many different technologies in the classroom really descibes this standard. Many school environments are now very technology enhanced, and these lessons really allow the students to be able to learn in a world that is constantly improving, and coming up with new technology.
I. Technology Operations and Concepts: Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students).
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
From this class I have learned how important it is for a teacher to have technological knowledge when teaching. Being a teacher is all about being able to teach others how to use the technology that is available to them in everyday life. Technology is important because it can help make teaching easier and faster, and many times there are things that teacher have to teach the students that have to do with technology. I have also learned how important it is for teachers to continue their learning of technology. If teachers don't learn about new techology they are doing a diservice to themselves and the students they teach. I also think that along with learning about new technologies teachers should also go over things they already know, because when you don't use a certain technology you lose it. Technology is the future and so are students, and it would make sense that teachers would be able to teach the students about the new emerging technology. VI. Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues: Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
This is another topic that we went over in class, and it is very important. Teachers need to explain to the students the right way to use technology, and the teachers should practice what they preach because they are the role models for the student. Like anything else in life there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and this is something that needs to be taught. We learned about this in one of out first computer tool class. It is good for a teacher to know whether it is right or wrong to make a copy of a CD ROM and distirbute it to others. It is also good to know that even just showing a Disney movie in the school needs to be ok with Disney, if it isn't being used for learning. There is a lot a teacher needs to know, but it is important to make sure that things are being done in the right way. If they aren't then teachers can get into a lot of trouble. There is a lot that is available to teachers, and they should know the right way to use it. It is mainly all about respect and we want to respect those who provide us with the new technologies we use in the classroom.
Final Reflection
This Computer Tools For Teachers class has been really great! I feel like I have learned so much. I think having us make an online texbook was a really good idea, and I think that I probably learned more from this than I would have from a regular textbook. I have never used anything like this wikispace, but it was a really neat and fun way to learn. Having us come up with different lesson plans helped me to see how many different lesson plans there are for all of the many technology devices we may come in contact with when we are teachers. I also think that it was good how we took time in class to go over the lesson plans we all came up with, so that other students could see all of the many kinds of lesson plans there are out there. For the online textbook I had to come up with a lesson plan for PowerPoint and for excel, and I couldn't believe how many different things could be done with each on of these programs. One of my AHA moments was when I was looking for a lesson plan for excel. I thought I would have to find something that had to do with math, but I ended up finding a lesson plan that had to do with social studies. I really never thought that excel could be used for anything else but math and science, but boy was I wrong. I found out things I didn't know before just by doing those assignments.
I also feel like I learned a lot by coming up with a lesson plan and teaching it to the class. We got to have a first hand experience with what it would be like to teach. I got to see just how hard it is to make sure that a lesson plan will work, and how hard it is to get everything finished in the time that is available. I also think it was good that we worked in groups for the project because when we become teachers a lot of times we will have to callaborate with others to get things done. I really liked that we got to use the smartboard for our lesson. I would have liked more time to work with it because there are so many neat things that can be done with this device. I think that the lesson we came up with was fun to do on the smartboard, and that made it all the more fun to do it.
Taking this class had helped me so much. I used to be afraid to try new things with technology because I am really not that great with it. But this class showed me that technology can be fun and easy to learn. This class helped me to understand how to do things better and more efficiently with the technology we have available to us. Technology is really something that should be incorporated into the classroom. There is so much that can be done with it, and it would be a waste if it wasn't being used. Because of this class I feel confident that I could use all of these programs and devices to teach a class. I can't wait to become a teacher so that I can use what I have learned in my classroom!
