My name is Megan Gebhart.I am 19 and I have lived in Ohio my whole life, specifically Hamilton, Ohio. I was a gymnast and captain of my high school gymnastics team. I love to eat and hangout. i live by quotes and if i didnt have them, i just do not know what i'd do! My favorite website to find quotes is holliesquotes.com . One of my favorite quotes is "Dare to dream." It is so small but means so much to me in many ways. Lastly, my hobbies are community service projects and helping people in general.
I am majoring in Special education, yet am focusing on behavioral problemed children. I would like to work with children from the age of 5-7 approximately. I want to work with these ages because i believe at that young of an age, there is room for change in behavior, hopefully changing there behaviors for the better. I want to hopefully help them see how wonderful they really are, and how smart they are before they are able to just drop out of school altogether. That is truly my goal as a teacher, and I am very passionate in accomplishing this goal.
I go to UC and am the president of the SCEC organization on campus. It stands for Student Council for Exceptional Children. It is a program that does service projects focusing around children. Such as we will be making blankets for children for christmas that are located in Childrens' Hospital. As well as making dinner for the families of these children at Ronald McDonald House. It is an amazing group for young adults becoming teachers. it is also great on resumes as well! If you are interested in this group do not hesitate to ask me about it :)

Artifact and Reflection Of a Standard

Technology Operations and Concepts

B.

demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

SO far in Computer tools for teachers, I have learned to broarden my understanding in the standard: Technology operations and concepts. For my final project, I learned how to use the smartboard and teach my "classroom" how to use it as well. We were able put up slides on the smartboard and allowed the children to come up and apply there own answers to our questions we asked of them. As well, we have learned new and creative ways to ask the students more creative ways to ask them questions. Such as when Janet showed us the touch screen way to allow the students to put the animals in two different catagories. As well as how they taught us that you can save your slides on the smart board and what they wrote physically in eack slide, as well! So, so far i have learned a good amount of information in regaurd to smartboard.

2nd Standard

Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

D.

plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.

When i did my finally presentation project with my group, We had to use technology loosely because we were working with 2nd graders. There knowledge of technology is just developing and they are more hands on at the time, so using an entire lesson plan using technology would not be as effective for the children. So, we used it in a short, but effective amount of time for our students. The "children" were very excited about getting to use the Smartboard, yet allowing them to be hands on with the seeds and planting the sunflower seeds allowed the students to understand the concept of what we were trying to teach them and the importance of it.So, allowing them to write the answers out on the smart board and drawing the flower as a group allowed the entire class to work together, then the hands on allowed them to work with just their peers. It was a great combination!

3rd Standard

Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum

D.

manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.

I believe something we that could work with this would be everyone's final projects. We are all learning different ways of how we can enhance our classrooms with technology. Like i have learned that i can use powerpoint, video, SMARTboard, excel, and computers in general. They are all great technologies to use in a classroom and i think, from being in this class, I have grown a greater understanding of how to use them for the better of my classroom.

4th Standard

Assessment and Evaluation

B.

use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

My gradebook is exactly what this standard applies to. I was able to add all of their finished work on excel and then able to average all of their grades all at once. It was a fast and easy way to be organized and efficient. I was also able to see how students were doing easily, so that they i can see what I need to work on, and help each student out with. It was a very good tool to have, going into the teaching stage.

5th Standard
Productivity and Professional Practice
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

An a classroom setting, it is good to always keep up with the new technology and advances the learning is improved upon. Even thought not every classroom will have a sufficient technology enhanced classrooms, the schools will still look at, as a teacher, you are informed and aware for the new technology around you. If you go to a job interview and they ask you and the person you are running against, "What do you know about technology, Such as: vodcasting, podcasting, social networking cites, mobile devices, second life, photostory 3, etc." If you know everything or mostly everything about them and the other person applying for the job doesn't, then more than likely you would get the job over the other person. Experience and knowledge can get you farther in life, always.

As well as, using the easy test makers, and rubric building website can also help you, as a teacher, because it shows how you use technology on a meaningful basis. Rather than using it when it is un-needed.

6th Standard
VI. Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues
D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.

This reminds me when, in class, we had a debate on the article, " How young is too young?" By Kathleen Vall,
Which was able to allow us, as incoming teachers, to see what our true understand on technology was, how it effected young children and what we over all think about it as coming into the field when children our developing more and more. We learned the reasons on both sides: as of if there should be an age limit on who can start playing/learning from technology, how much of it, when do you, as a teacher, set boundaries, etc.
So with this we are able to learn at what age it is healthy to allow students to learn with technology, as well as when it is appropriate to let children use technology.

*Final Reflection*
For fall quarter of 2008, I learned a bunch of new and interesting technologies that I did not know about before this class. I learned how on the Internet, there are many different websites that can help out teachers in so many ways. For instance, the easytestmaker.com helped out with making up quiz or tests easily. I even learned from things that I thought I already knew all about. For instance, I was unaware of all the things Microsoft Excel could do! I did not know how to find averages and make charts until this class.

The other things that I thought was interesting about the class was how everyone got to give their own presentations/lesson plans in front of the class, all using a different type of classroom set up. It allowed all of us, as the students/future educators, to see how in any type of classroom setting, their can be an interesting lesson plan always involved. It also showed me, personally, how lucky those certain classroom that have the SMARTboards and projector screens have it. It was a lot more work for the groups that had only the certain amount of computers and yet again showed how unfortunate and harder it made the schools and classrooms that do not have access to these technologies, had it.

The things that I found as an “aha” moment would have been when it came to finding lesson plans online. I was so unaware that they even had lesson plans on line, and was completely “aha-ed” by how many there were! I also was “aha-ed” about how to work the SMARTboard for my final project. It can do so many things and I do wish we would've had more time to learn more about the SMARTboard, but there just want enough time in a day to figure out everything the SMARTboard can do. It was completely amazing at how simple it made the classroom, as well as how much it can get all the students involved at the same time!

I had a lot of fun it this class and learned a lot from all the material Janet presented to us, as a class.
