Yo yo yo! I'm Lonni Wiselogel. I'm 19 years old and currently in my second year at the University of Cincinnati. I'm majoring in Middle Childhood Education with a concentration in Language Arts and Social Studies. I hope to one day be a 5th grade Language Arts teacher. I'm from Dayton, OH and I lived there my whole life before my first year in Cincinnati. I have two older sisters, Ashley and Lacey, whom I've looked up to my whole life. Lacey is a fourth year here at UC in Middle Childhood Education as well. She is definitely a mentor for me and has helped guide me in my path so far in college. I'm also extremely close with both of my parents. My mom is a stay at home mom and she is my best friend. She and I have a very strong relationship and I am able to share everything with her. My dad works for Pepsi and also has a second job at a grocery store in Dayton. My dad is definitely my hero and I admire his strength and work ethic. I can only hope to amount to half of the person that he is.
I love sports and being active. I was a cheerleader for football and soccer for a total of 6 years and I also participated in tap, jazz, and ballet for 5 years. I am a HUGE Notre Dame Football fan, probably the biggest you'll ever meet. As far as NFL goes, I'm a Cleveland Browns fan, in support of my "boyfriend" Brady Quinn. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love reading (Harry Potter is my fav!) and listening to all kinds of music.
I. Technology Operations and Concepts
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
This standard was included with the lesson plan that I found for emerging technologies. This lesson plan is pretty unique in that it uses a social networking site as a tool for literary characterization. Most students and teachers would not view a social networking site such as Facebook as a resource in the classroom that can be used as a learning tool for students. In this lesson students are to create Facebook profiles for the different characters in the book that they have read in class or are in the process of reading. They will create the profiles to display different characteristics and traits for the different characters of the book. After they create their profiles they can interact with each other in their Facebook community in a manner that the characters in the book would. This lesson allows students to use their knowledge of technology and allows their knowledge to grow in using emerging technologies in the classroom. It will encourage students to use new technology in new ways and to continually grow in their technology skills.
II.Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
This standard was included in the lesson my group and I created for our final project. When planning this lesson we had certain stipulations in our classroom that we had to consider. We were given a class that had computers, but not enough computers for each student. So, we had to make a lesson that used PowerPoint and the classroom configuration we were given. We had to plan a way that the students would be able to effectively use the resources available. We decided to split the class into groups so that each group would have one computer to use. The groups were each given a Greek city-state to research and learn about before making a PowerPoint presentation about their city-state. Students were able to use the computers to do research on the internet and to make their PowerPoint presentations.
III.Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum
A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
C.apply technology to develop students' higher-order skills and creativity.
I included this standard in the lesson plan that I created for a 7-8 grade math class. The assignment requires that students use and excel spreadsheet to budget and plan the decorating and furnishing of their dream bedroom. The students are given a budget and are to look through old catalogs and pick out the things they want to "purchase" for their room. They have to enter information and costs of each item and keep track of their spending so as to not go over their budget. The use of excel and the spreadsheet enhances the effectiveness and the experience of this lesson and the students are able to use organizing skills and creativity in designing their own bedroom.
IV.Assessment and Evaluation
A.apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
I included these standards in my rubric that I made for the pollution solution project. For the sources part of the rubric students are required to locate and implement 4 online sources in their research as well as 3 outside sources (i.e. newspaper articles, magazine articles, books, etc.) This way students will learn to be in the habit if implementing all different types of resources in their research, including the internet. Part of their grade will depend on how the students used the internet and the other resources to their advantage and ensuring that they are capable of utilizing the internet to their full advantage. V.Productivity and Professional Practice
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
I included this standard in making my grade book using Excel. I used technology to make the grade book in order to make the process simpler and more organized. With excel I was able to enter in the names and grades for different assignments for several students. Then I was able to figure the totals and averages very easily using the tools on Excel. Utilizing technology in this activity provides several different advantages. It allowed me to complete the task very easily and quickly. It also allows the teacher to easily go in and change grades or add grades and recount the totals and averages. The use of technology also provides the teacher to become more efficient and more comfortable using these tools. Using technological tools for tasks like making a grade book definitely engages the teacher in ongoing professional development lifelong learning.
VI. Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues
Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
This standard was implemented in the lesson that my group created for our final project. In the project students are placed in groups and each group is assigned a city-state to research and learn about in order to create a PowerPoint presentation to show the class. This lesson requires the students to spend time on the computer making their PowerPoint and finding information online about their Greek city-state. As the teachers we decided to go go on the web and find some websites that would help the students find information so they don't have to search online as much. We also made it a point to let the students know that if they are going to search online, they are to only go on websites that pertain to their Greek city-state and the topic of the project. We want to make sure the students aren't looking at any other websites for personal use during the time designated for research.
