Title: Animal PowerPoint Contributor: Samantha Davenport Subject Matter: Animals Grade Level: 5th-8th grade Description: In this lesson, students pick an animal and research it. When their research is finished they will put their information on a PowerPoint. For the PowerPoint, they must have the scientific name of the animal, where it lives with a habitat map, what it eats, the weight and length of the animal, breeding information, special/unique features, and any other weird information. There should also be a sound file or graph of the animal. This lesson is great because it gets students used to using PowerPoint, and they can be creative with designing their own project. It also gets them used to researching on a certain subject and picking out the things that are the most important. Computer Environment/ Resources: This lesson will need a lab classroom with a computer for every student. There should be Microsoft PowerPoint on each computer. There will also need a computer with a projector, so the students can present their PowerPoints to the class. There must also be internet connection, so the students can surf the web for information and for pictures to use on their PowerPoints.
Title:Get into the Flow with an Interactive Volcano Contributor: Dana Lotz Subject Matter: Physical, Earth, and Environmental Science Grade Level: Grades 3-5 Description: Working in small groups of 4 or 5, the students research the structural elements of a volcano. They then will type 5 facts onto a PowerPoint slide. The teacher then will help the groups to then combine their slides into a slideshow. Next, the teacher would make an interactive table of contents using a volcano diagram and PowerPoint's Action Buttons. This allows the students do look up the information, learn about volcanos, and learn how a PowerPoint works. It also allows the class to look at the PowerPoint together and each group can see other group's slides. Computer Environment/ Resources: For this lesson plan the teacher would need a computer for each group with Internet access and PowerPoint. The teacher would also need a projector or a TV monitor to project the final PowerPoint for the students to see.
Title:Our Solar System Contributor: Dana Lotz Subject Matter: Science and Computers
Grade Level: Grades 4-6 Description: This lesson plan is using an Excel spreadsheet. The teacher would first have students make the Solar System spreadsheet. Next, the students would research the orbits of the objects in the solar system. After doing this the students would change things in the Excel chart. These would include changing the settings, the colors. and many other things. This allows the students to learn how to use an Excel chart and different ways to change things in it. This also allows the use of technology tools to enhance learning, use creativity, and previously acquired knowledge about the solar system to make an Excel Sheet. Computer Environment/ Resources: The teacher would need computers with internet access and Microsoft Office for each student to do this lesson plan.
