Title: WordFamilies.ppt Contributor: Katie Fischer Subject Matter: Language Art/ Reading: Word Families Grade Level: K-5 Description:In this lesson plan, teachers will be using PowerPoint to assist children with their reading skills. They group words into families that all have similar sounds but different starting letters such as: cat, bat, rat, and pat. They then create slides that will help them sound out the word and also have fun graphics and sounds that will help them to remember how to read the word the next time they see it. I think this is an exemplary use of technology because there are so many ways you could work this into a classroom. If your classroom has a lot of computers, you could have children do it independently. If you only have a few computers, you could split the class into groups and have them work on word family readings together, or even work off of one main computer using a projection screen and having the class working on their reading skills together as a whole. It gives you many options as a teacher with how you want to approach the use of the Power Point. It can also be reused for other word families once children have mastered these.
Computer Environment/ Resources: Computer, Power Point program, projection screen, and projector.

Title:Animated Stories Using PowerPoint! Contributor: Chelsea Gluckman Subject Matter: Language Arts Grade Level: 4th-6th grade Description: This lesson allows students to become actively engaged with their writing by creating animated pictures on their computers to accompany their stories. The students are also actively using their computers and PowerPoint, which will increase their familiarity with the software. Combining the writing with visual imagery, and hands-on computer experience will have these students actively learning and participating throughout the lesson. Steps: 1) Have your students (depending on grade level) focus on a story you wish for them to create. 2) Have the students brainstorm what type of pictures/images they would like to have accompany their stories. 3) Prior to computer use, discuss how to use MS Paint, or how to use Google Image search/ what words to use, etc. 4) Have students begin finding images for the stories and inserting them onto PowerPoint slides. 5) Show the students your own animated story on powerpoint, so they can visually take in what the final product should look like. Resources: The students will need computers, PowerPoint software, access to the internet, and MS Paint.

Title: Vocabulary Bingo Contributor: Andrea Runyon Subject Matter: Language Arts/ Vocabulary Grade Level: 2-4 Description: Each student takes a piece of paper and divides it into five rows and five columns. They then choose words from their vocabulary list and put them in any order they like on their "board." The center space will be the free space. The plan calls for the teacher to pull words out of a hat and announce the definitions, but the teacher could have them already randomized in a PowerPoint. While the teacher is presenting the definition, the student will find the matching vocabulary word on their "bingo" sheet and highlight it. This will help the student better remember the words and what they mean after playing a couple times. Computer Environment/ Resources: The teacher could use PowerPoint for this.
Title:Mystery Word Contributor: Kara Shaner Subject Matter: Vocabulary Grade Level: 1st through 6th Description: This lesson plan says that you write the word on the board behind the students and then have other students say one word that will help the student figure out what the word is. This could easily be adapted to use with a SmartBoard. You can write the word on the board and then every time a student says another word you can write them around the main vocabulary word. Then, once you are done with the word, the paper can be printed out for the students to use as a study resource. You could also do the same concept on a PowerPoint by adding the words as the students say them. Computer Environment/ Resources: You would need a SmartBoard and a computer (with or without PowerPoint) with a printer.
