Hi!!

My name is Audrey Zink. I grew up in a very small town called Leesburg, OH. I am the youngest of four in my family. I have three older brothers, Jacob (28), Justin (28), and Anthony (23). My oldest brother is married to Deanna and they have two kids. My nephews name is Koben and a nieces name is Kennedy. They also are expecting another one around May. They are super cute and I love them to death. My family is very close and they mean the world to me. Probably what I enjoy most is hanging out with my niece and nephew. I enjoy playing sports and being outside. I love to play softball and soccer. I also enjoy camping and hanging out with my family. I love to go boating and water skiing. In the winter time I enjoy snow skiing. My favorite vacation spot is Lake Cumberland on a house boat. One day I want to travel around Europe. In my free time I enjoy shopping, walking my dog, taking naps, and getting on facebook. My dog is probably the cutest dog you will ever see. Her name is Riley and she is a cockapoo.

I am a second year student at the University of Cincinnati. I one day want to be a Middle School Teacher. I enjoy college a lot. I have a boyfriend who attends the University of Cincinnati also. We have been together for 4 and 1/2 years. I am enjoying life right now and living everyday to the fullest!

What I enjoy doing in my free time!

ISTE Standards

I. Technology Operations and Concepts

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students).

Reflection: I relate this standard to when we were planning our lesson for the class. We were demonstrating introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding the concepts of technology. We were showing this by understanding the knowledge of how to use a computer and how to use it properly. We were using the computer for Excel to enter data and for the stopwatch to record the times. By using technology in the classroom we are introducing new ideas to the students. We are allowing the students to have more opportunities by incorporating technology into the classroom. We (as the teachers) understood the skills of using technology and we knew the concepts and how to use it properly during our lesson.

II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

Reflection: This standard relates the most to the day that we got into groups and looked at the different websites to see if they were accurate or not. Each group had a different website to look at. The website my group had was about Clones. We could tell when we first looked at it, that it was a fake website. When the other groups were getting up and showing their websites and telling if they were real or fake, a few of them were difficult to tell. Some people really spent a lot of time on their website and tried to make it look as true as possible. I knew that there were fake websites on the internet, but I thought you would be able to tell that they were untrue. This was a great activity because now, I know what to tell my students to look for in websites to see if they are true and accurate. I now will be more likely to already have the websites ready that I want my students to use. This will be a good way to make sure I know they are getting accurate information and know that they are on appropriate websites.

III. Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum

Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
A. facilitate technology - enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.

The lesson plan I found and posted supported this standard. We had to find a lesson that dealt with a certain technology and post it online. I found a lesson plan that used devices such as iPods, voice recorders, and video cameras. The lesson was to have students do a science experiment using an iPod to listen to the procedures and use a camera and voice recorder to document all observations. When the students are doing this assignment they are gaining knowledge from the assignment, as well as using different devices. Using iPods, voice recorders, and video cameras allow the students to have fun and learn about new technology. This is a great way to get technology involved in your classroom and link it to the standards.

IV.Assessment and Evaluation

Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

I think that my rubric best supports this standard. I think it supports this standard because I used technology to create the rubric that the students will use when doing their project. They will use this rubric to help guide them to get the grade they want to receive. This rubric will help both the students and I when grading the project. I used the rubric website to help form an effective assessment and evaluation. This website made it easy to form a rubric because I had appropriate technology available for me to use.

V.Productivity and Professional Practice

Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

I think this standard supports my grade book. I feel that using excel for your grade book is a professional way to use technology. We used excel to enter the students grades and to figure up their average for the class. By using excel we are developing professional skills and we are learning information we can use in everyday life. These Excel skills will help you with more than just a grade book. By entering your data in Excel, it is just one click to find the students average. This can increase your productivity because you won’t be spending time calculating grades. They will calculate automatically in Excel. As teachers, we will have more time for other things since we are using Excel for our grade book.

VI. Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues

Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:
B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.

The second lesson plan I discovered and posted relates to this standard. My second lesson plan was about students researching water parks for a vacation spot and they have to come up with the best deal for the family. They have to take in affect the location and the expense of the water park and find the cheapest deal. I feel this lesson plan relates with all students, no matter what diversity, characteristics, or abilities. . This allows students who have never been to a water park or on a vacation to experience what it would be like and what they need to be able to go. Students can also think about what State they want to vacation in and find what state is the cheapest to visit. This allows students to be creative and have fun, but also complete an assignment. Not all students travel, so this gives all students the chance to feel like they are going to go on a vacation. This is a fun activity and gets all students involved.

Final Reflection

I learned so many positive things from this class. I learned about so many new tools and how to use so many things I had no clue about. I really enjoyed doing the group lesson plan and teaching the class. This really showed me how it is going to be in the classroom and things that I need to consider. I realize that things might not always go your way and that things may take longer than you think. You always have to have an alternate plan. The day we presented the printer was out of ink, so our back-up plan was to have them just write in the data. This worked out fine, but it took longer than we thought it was going to. It also made me realize how short a class period was and that you need to allow for enough time to complete the project. This activity really helped guide my thinking and helped me reflect on what we did and what I can change for the future.

I also have enjoyed the Wikispaces. This is a tool that I have never heard of, but it is really helpful and very easy. I like that we post lesson plans for different technologies. This will definitely help in the future when I am trying to figure out different lesson plans. I never realized how many lesson plans are online and how easy they are to find. There are lots of websites that just supply you with lessons plans for everything. This really opened my eyes and helped me to realize that I can find whatever I need on the internet.

Learning about each type of technology is really neat. I enjoyed the Smart board lesson a lot. I had never seen a smart board and I had no clue how to use it. I now know the basics about it and I know if I ever have one in the classroom I will have to experiment a lot before I start teaching with it. There is so much you can do with a smart board and it definitely is a very helpful tool. An “aha” moment I had in the class, was realizing that I didn’t know a whole lot about technology. I learned a lot about Excel when my group had to incorporate it in our lesson plan. I never knew all the stuff you can incorporate into the classroom with technology. Technology is such a great tool and needs to be incorporated into the classroom at appropriate times. I really enjoyed this class and learned so many different things that I will be able to incorporate in my classroom to make me a better teacher.
